Landslide in Chitwan: Statement of a Passenger who Jumped from the Bus Window: “I Survived, but My Companions Disappeared”
Rautahat, July 12 (Ashar 28). A Ganpati Deluxe bus traveling from Kathmandu to Gaur in Rautahat was swept away by a landslide in Simaltal, Chitwan. Three passengers managed to save their lives by jumping from the bus.
Among those who jumped and saved their lives are two individuals from Devahi Gonahi, Rautahat, and one from Siswa Dhamoura, Vrindavan Municipality. They were rescued from the site where the bus fell and taken to Narayangadh in another bus.
While traveling to Narayangadh in another bus, one passenger from Siswa Dhamoura provided a statement to Onlinekhabar about the incident. He stated that he jumped from the window near the cabin to save his life when the bus started falling. The other two also saved their lives similarly.
According to that passenger, there were four other people in the cabin with him. He reported that his companions and their belongings were missing. In a video, other passengers are heard consoling him, saying, “What about the belongings, surviving is what matters.”
Around 3:30 this morning, a Bagmati Province 1516 numbered Angel Deluxe bus traveling from Birgunj to Kathmandu and an unidentified Ganpati Deluxe bus traveling from Kathmandu to Gaur were caught in a landslide at Simtal, Bharatpur Metropolitan City Ward No. 29. According to Chitwan Chief District Officer Indra Dev Yadav, it is estimated that there were 41 passengers in the bus going to Gaur and 24 passengers in the bus coming to Kathmandu. However, the exact details of the passengers are still unknown.
The police have reported that the buses, along with the passengers, have disappeared into the Trishuli River due to the landslide.
